Mallika Sherawat kisses a Python at Cannes!

mallika snake
The things that an actress has to do to promote a movie - attending parties, film festival visits, sweating out at stage shows, blowing kisses at the crowds at promotional events, posing for pics with fans, kissing kids, kissing snakes...ehm...kising what? That's the first thought that came to our mind when we got to see the pics of Mallika Sherawat posing with a giant python at Cannes. Just when we thought it was going to end with the well-fed reptile wrapped around her neck, Mallika planted a kiss on the python. Boohoo...Emraan Hashmi!
No, this is no rubber snake. This happens to be the real thing and the whole snake-charming act was part of a photocall to promote her upcoming international project - Hisss. The movie aims to revive the "Nagin" genre of Bollywood movies on a larger scale and is being promoted as an international project.
We wonder what the python would have said had it been blessed with the gift of speech.

King of Flops 2009 - Akshay Kumar

    akshay_kumar_king of flops

Akshay Kumar had a flop-infested 2009 despite having the chance to star in the most hyped and highest budgeted movies in the history of Bollywood itself. 8*10 Tasveer, Chandni Chowk to China, Kambakkht Ishq and Blue were trumpeted around prior to their respective release dates. Each one had new premises, cutting edge technical brilliance, exotic locales, Hollywood connections and astronomical budgets to boast of. The combined budget of these movies equals the total budget of some nations. Now that may have been a bit of an exaggeration. But Rs. 3 billion isn’t too less a sum to dismiss off and the movies didn’t deliver as expected.

King of Hits 2009 – Ranbir Kapoor

ranbir-kapoor-king of hitsHe earned positive remarks for his fabulous debut in Saawariya, but Ranbir Kapoor didn’t taste box office success of superstar league till 2009. Saawariya flopped and though Bachna Aae Haseeno did fairly well, the Khans and the Kumars were not threatened a wee bit by the new Kapoor on the block.

Things took a dramatic turn in 2009 as Ranbir Kapoor kicked off his conquest with critical and commercial success in the form of Wake Up Sid. Sid was an entertaining and nostalgic trip down the memory lane and appealed to youngsters and families alike. The chemistry between the Ranbir and Konkona Sen was exceptional and the camaraderie shared by the supporting cast was another feel-good factor. The moderate budget made it a highly profitable investment for its makers.

Mild March with a surprise hit

Katrina just can’t stand Priyanka Chopra

katrina-priyankaIt started with ‘Namaste London’ and is still on. Katrina Kaif’s every single movie as a solo actress has been a hit, and the actress knows her brand pretty well. This may be the reason for Katrina to opt out from one Anurag Basu film opposite Ranbir Kapoor, as Priyanka Chopra was also said to be a part of the cast.
Soon after reports aired that Priyanka Chopra will also be a part of the film, comes news that Katrina has opted out of the film.
“When Katrina agreed to do Anurag Basu’s film with Ranbir, no mention was made of another heroine, and certainly not of Priyanka. However, when word about this reached her, she found the whole idea of the credit titles reading ‘Ranbir-Katrina-Priyanka’ too gimmicky. Not that she has anything against Priyanka or any other co-star,” said a close friend to Katrina.

    Aishwarya Rai: Raavan's Ragini

ravan6Aishwarya plays Ragini, a classical dance teacher in Mani Ratnam's much-awaited Raavan (Raavanan in Tamil and Villan in Telugu). The first look of the movie shows her dancing gracefully in a song . Talking about her role, she said: "This was an extremely challenging role for me. To shoot in Hindi and Tamil at the same time was quite a task. But the experience was so wonderful that if Mani sir asks me, I am ready to do it all over again." "Ragini is a strong woman and very relatable to the modern Indian woman. She speaks her mind. I say 'discovery' because we kept discovering fantastic locations and got to see so many places. We used to trek every morning to be on the sets. The role remained a mystery because I was playing the leading lady and there I was with no make up, no fancy clothes and all drenched in rain with mud all over. But that's what Mani sir expects from us to keep it all as real as it can get," she added. Interestingly, Aishwarya Rai started her film career with Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar in 1997. "I understand a bit of Tamil and speak a bit of it. For me, it is very important that I understand the meaning of my dialogues before I deliver them. I can't just mug up the dialogues. So for Raavan, I made sure I knew what I was saying and yes, I have improved a lot on the language and I am confident about doing more Tamil stuff in future," she revealed. "After Raavan, it was like: Come on! Bring on Robot (Endhiran)," she added.
